Sohna: 25 farmhouses get demolition notices

GURUGRAM: The municipal council in Sohna has issued demolition notices to the owners of around 25 farmhouses who allegedly carried out illegal construction in the eco-sensitive Aravalis in Raisina village. The forest department will conduct a drive to raze the illegal structures after a week.

The notice, sent on Saturday, stated that it has been observed that many farmhouse owners carried out construction without permission in “protected” forest areas, and such structures will be demolished. The forest department had earlier sent show-cause notices to several farmhouses in Raisina for rampant clearing of forest areas.

The notice stated, “As no permission was sought from municipal council of Sohna before construction in forest area, these construction activities are against the NGT order of 2018 in Sonya Ghosh vs state of Haryana case of 2013. Thus, you have been given seven days to demolish the illegal construction on your own or we will be conducting demolition drive.”

A senior forest department official said, “Illegal construction in Raisina has been a big concern. We had sent them show-cause notices a number of times and had conducted demolition drives as well. The area is protected under sections 4 and 5 of Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) and the Aravali notification and any kind of non-forest activity is prohibited in such areas.”
